PAL Retirees Club to Drum Up Membership Campaign

Featured on PALiner June 2007 issue

During the bi-monthly membership meeting of the PAL Retirees Club on May 24
at the PAL Foundation Office, it was decided that all possible venues will be tapped to
enhance the awareness on the existence of the organization. Foremost among these
venues are the Employee Benefits & Services Office, Interline Rebate Travel and
Administrative Benefits Office where printed information on the activities of the club
can be posted, as these are the most frequented PAL offices by retirees. It was also
decided that coordination be made with the Manager, Employee Benefits and Services for
the attachment of a PAL Retirees Club membership form in the forms to be given to retiring employees.

Active members meanwhile are exerting extra effort to contact former colleagues
who are now retired in the provinces and abroad. This resulted to the influx of inquiries, especially on the aspects of registration and payment of dues. During the last meeting, PRC president, Atty. Joe Cabatuando, said that the most convenient means on how to meet the requirements of the interested retirees are being finalized by the committees
concerned.

Meanwhile, along with the creation of the Benefits Enhancement Committee, all
members will update their records on file to include their respective expertise and
products so that cross-referrals can be made to make use of them at a considerable and reasonable cost.

Members who will be referred for their services and products will contribute a percentage
of their earnings to the club’s operational fund. Enjoying the benefit of this cross-referral currently are Mr. Mike Villaflor with his fire protection gadgets, Ms. Christy Labayen with her organic farm produce, particularly, romaine lettuce, and Mr. Gerry Vergara with his herbal products.

A long list of expertise is expected in the fields of salesmanship, travel agency
management, secretarial, handicraft, legal counseling, travel assistance, editorial
consultancy, among others.

The Extended PAL Family

Featured on PALiner Vol. 51 No. 1 March 2007 issue

The extended family is part of the Filipino culture - parents, married children and other close relatives living in with the family is more the rule than the exception.

The same holds true for the PAL Family. Retired PALers still want to be part of the family they served for decades. And service remains the main philosophy behind the formation of the PAL Retirees Club.

Club members not only look after each other at the twilight of their years but also look for ways to help PAL in their own modest ways, banking on their long experience of building PAL into what it is today.

Indeed, There is Life After PAL

Featured on PALiner Vol. 50 No. 4 December 2006 issue, written by Apolinario B. Villalobos

Retirement, is a word practically everyone dreads, most especially those whose personality is tainted with vanity. It is synonymous to old age, exhaustion of usefulness, loneliness, idleness, etc. But, what is it?

When I retired from PAL, those who knew me for a long time were surprised at my decision to leave such a prestigious company. Questions were asked on what I will do when I step out of the corporate glass door, how will I survive, how will I be able to support my family, and even on the state of my savings. I understood their concern because I was too young to "retire" at the age of thirty-nine.

I made a "long-range" plan before I decided to pack up my things and leave the company where I spent almost half of my useful life. It was painful, but being used to challenges, I prepared myself for what was ahead of me... Life after PAL.

Everybody's Tita Norma

Featured on PALiner Vol. 50 No. 3 September 2006 issue

Norma Lebitania has a confession - she cheated when she first came to work for PAL on July 1, 1966. She had to line the pockets of her blazer with fistfuls of loose change just so she would tip the scales at 100 lb. and pass her physical examination.

Deceptively frail, Norma was determined to get into PAL. She had been a working student and her parents and her seven younger brothers and sisters were counting on her. Her humble origins made her more compassionate towards those who have less.
